Info sull'evento
Yuri Catania looks up into the sky above his home-studio in Switzerland. He took more than one hundred pictures of the more limpid sky during this pandemic, almost every day from March to June 2020. He has captured the same immense sky for everyone: Asia, Europe, Africa and America. The sky like this pandemic has no borders and differences. Hope x The Future was born as a photographic project but it has evolved itself in the vision of the artist who feels to expand his expression through a more complex shape. The selected images, boxed in plexiglass parallelepipeds, represent the protective shields that have saved, protected, and also divided the whole of humanity during this time. That series is a unique edition that consists of four fundamental elements: photography, box plexiglass, paper lettering, flashlight. The artist made the selections of the images of the sky. Then he has created fragments of phrases combining the lettering with the pictures without a sequence order. The meaning arrives as a mantra of hope for the future.
“Andrà Tutto Bene” (It’s Gonna Be Ok) “Sorridi” (Smile) “Stiamo Uniti” (Stay Together) “Nel Tuo Cuore” (In your Heart) “Trova la Forza” (Find the Strenght) “Vivi Questo Momento” (Live Now) “Ascolta” (Listen)
The idea of adding messages to the images is the outcome of the research to bring photographic media as part of a work that, together with the use of lettering, becomes a different art.
Yuri Catania closes the selected images of the sky in special boxes of museum acrylic plexiglass. The made parallelepipeds represent the protective shields that people have to wear for protection from this virus. The plexiglass in this work becomes a fundamental element assuming a trivalent meaning: it separates therefore protects and, also unites.
Outside of each box, the artist applies a fragment of a sentence with an inscription carved in cotton paper. And here, the fourth element comes into play: the flashlight, supplied with the work itself which, once turned on, through its beam of light, projects the phrase cut out of the paper "piercing" the plexiglass and casting the poem towards the sky and humanity, towards those clouds to which it belongs and from where the meaning of the message originated.
